BiteRight Privacy Policy

BiteRight (“we”, “us”, or “our”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how information is collected, used, and handled when you use the BiteRight mobile application (the “App”).

1. Information We Collect

We collect only the information necessary to provide BiteRight’s functionality. We do not sell your data, and we do not use your data for advertising or tracking.

a. User Content

BiteRight allows you to provide content directly within the app. This may include:

Photos or videos, such as:
- Photos of meals or menus
- An optional profile image
Text content, such as:
- Ingredient lists
- Menu text
- Notes
- Saved places
- A profile display name or nickname

This content is used solely to provide app functionality, such as food analysis, saved items, and personalisation.

Some content (such as food images or ingredient text) may be processed transiently using third-party services to perform analysis. Content you choose to save remains stored locally on your device unless explicitly stated otherwise.

b. Identifiers

If you create a profile in the app, BiteRight generates and stores a pseudonymous user identifier to associate saved content and preferences with your profile.

This identifier is not your real name
It is not used to identify you outside the app
It is not used for advertising or tracking

c. Location Information

With your permission, BiteRight may access your device’s precise location while the app is in use. This is used to:

Improve ingredient and product analysis based on regional differences
Support location-aware features such as saved places

Location data is used only for app functionality and is not used for tracking or advertising. You can enable or disable location access at any time through your device settings.

BiteRight may ask you optional questions about dietary preferences or sensitivities (such as gluten intolerance or coeliac disease) in order to tailor app behaviour and analysis.

This information:

Is self-declared
Is not verified or diagnosed
Is not medical or clinical data
Is not shared for advertising or tracking

BiteRight does not provide medical advice or diagnoses.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

We do not collect:

Contact information (such as email address, phone number, or physical address)
Payment or financial information
Contacts from your device
Advertising identifiers
Cross-app or cross-site tracking data
Health records or data from HealthKit
Fitness or exercise data

3. Data Processing and Third-Party Services

To provide BiteRight’s functionality, certain user-provided data (such as images or text) may be processed by trusted third-party services, including:

Image and text analysis services (e.g. AI-based analysis)
Product or ingredient databases

These services process data only to perform the requested functionality and do not use your data for advertising or marketing. Data handling by these services is governed by their respective privacy policies.

4. On-Device Storage

Some data, such as saved searches, saved photos, meals, menus, or places, is stored locally on your device. This data is not transmitted off-device unless required for a feature you explicitly use.

5. Diagnostics and App Stability

BiteRight does not operate its own analytics or crash-reporting systems. Apple may provide anonymous, aggregated diagnostic information (such as crash logs) to help improve app stability. These diagnostics do not contain personal information.

6. How We Use Information

We use collected information only to:

Provide and improve app functionality
Perform food and ingredient analysis
Personalise your experience
Maintain saved content and preferences

We do not use your data for:

Advertising
Marketing
Tracking across apps or websites

We do not sell your data. We share data only:

With service providers required to deliver app functionality
When required by law

8. Data Retention

We retain data only for as long as necessary to provide the app’s features. Locally stored data remains on your device unless you choose to delete it or remove the app.

9. Your Choices and Controls

You can:

Edit or delete your profile information at any time
Control location permissions through your device settings
Delete locally stored content from within the app
Remove all app data by uninstalling the app

10. Children’s Privacy

BiteRight is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected in the app or on our website with an updated “Last updated” date.
